"The launch of full-fledged joint control is the first step in implementing the green corridor initiative between the Ukrainian Reni checkpoint, the Moldovan Giurgiuleşti checkpoint, and the Romanian Galați checkpoint. The launch of joint control on the Ukrainian side will increase the capacity of this section of the border. At present, no more than 50 lorries pass through Reni per day. Our goal is to double this number at least," said Serhii Derkach, Ukraine's Deputy Infrastructure Minister.

The renovation reportedly involved the repair of three floors and the facade of the service building. In addition, the sanitary facilities at the checkpoint have been renovated. Additionally, the road surface has been replaced, and road signs and information boards have been updated and installed. The repairs were carried out by the Service for Infrastructure Maintenance and Development in Odesa Oblast.

In addition to lorries, buses will be subject to joint control, with a separate lane and a terminal at the checkpoint. This will reduce the waiting time for passengers.

Background: Ukraine's Infrastructure Ministry has commenced negotiations with Moldova and Romania to create a green corridor between the Reni (Ukraine), Giurgiuleşti (Moldova) and Galați (Romania) checkpoints to speed up the export of Ukrainian agricultural products.
